Pentagon set of 96 pieces: 30 pentagon shaped tiles each of 3 colours: natural, black and white and 8 large flash cards of activities, building in complexity
Outstanding resource for group geometry activities: A tessellation (aka tiling) is a way to cover a surface with a repeating pattern of flat shapes such that there are no overlaps or gaps. Tessellations show up in art and architecture throughout the world. The combination of the tessellate and colours/tones means that a large range of patterns can be created.
The trick is in understanding the basic shape, made from 4 pieces, that then repeats. How colour is used determines the endless possibilities of pattern making.
This activity is highly engaging and sharpens your focus. Working out how to make patterns by using the colours in different ways....it is a lot of fun.
The set is large enough for several kids to work together.
Hand dyed wood shapes to create this set.
